The 35th meeting of the CBRN TRG WG - Bratislava
Welcome to all participants of the 35th meeting of the CBRN NATO Training Working Group to Slovakia. I hope your professional discussions will proceed effectively and will contribute to the fulfillment of the goals which unite us within NATO - peace reinforcement and security for all people.
Nowadays, almost everyone is aware of the dangers present everywhere around us, threats to peace and security coming from asymmetric threats. Our main enemies are not the organized armies and soldiers at the moment. The biggest threats we are facing are coming from failed states and numerous extremists and terrorists groups. The potential use of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear weapons or agents by the enemies of peace and security presents serious threat which deserves an equally serious response on our side. Therefore the CBRN Defence is one of the most important capabilities which we have to take into consideration from an Allies’ point of view.
Any threat to a NATO country is a threat to all NATO countries. Peace and security are not concepts that can exist only within the borders of each of our countries but they require a common struggle. Another requirement, which we are expected to meet, is the capacity of the NATO countries to exchange information and knowledge not only about the level of the possible threats but also about the best practices that enable us to respond to the challenges we face.
The CBRN Training WG is committed to this task and is working hard to provide the basis for appropriate training of our troops and specialists. These are all the reasons for which I would like to wish you all a successful working week here in Bratislava.
